We moved from Etobicoke to North York the first week of May. We lived in a basement apartment there and our landlord was a very nice Italian man. It was a little sad to leave, but we were so anxious to have a place that felt more of our own. We rented a truck and did it all by ourselves. It was a lot of work so after a couple of days we were exhausted.
The first week in our new place was great, we were pretty busy moving things around, drilling holes and doing all the things you need to do when you move. Then the heat came. It got so hot that we could hardly sleep and we didn't even have a fan. This is my first summer in Canada so I didn't know what to expect. And the truth is I still can't believe how hot and humid it can get, I mean, after all that snow and wind and cold.
So, a couple of days later, we decided to get a fan. We went to Canadian Tire and we found one. It looked nice, modern and big and was pretty cheap so we thought : we got a great deal! so as soon as we got home we took it out of the box and plugged it in. It was awful! I have never heard so much noise coming out of one of those things before. Now it wasn't the heat that wouldn't let us sleep. it was the loud noise coming out of the fan. What a nightmare!
A couple of weeks later, it was so hot and humid that one of our walls cracked. It was the wall in my son's bedroom. He woke up in the morning yelling " Mom I think my wall just broke". So I went to check and there it was, a big crack in the middle of the wall. We had to tell the landlord to come and fix it. After a week someone came. He was pretty efficient and in 30 minutes he was ready to go. He told us to wait for the wall to be dry, so it wouldn't crack again. Oh! I thought, now is a really good time to put my big, horrible noisy fan to a good use!
